The website for this company is a really slick looking legal services company, that doesn't sem to list any real or head office. The broken English seems to say something else is going on. Either way, I'm not planning on replying. This email came directly from the monster.com internal email system.

Recruiters: Some tips on making contact with applicants.

You're a recruiter. You only have a few minutes to read over someone's resume and decide if it's a good match for the positions you have, so you have to be pretty liberal in your judgment. Sometimes you're simply not going to make a good connection. That's understandable, since this is a high-pressure business. But there are things that you can do to make the chance of getting the right person to reply. Especially when recruiting technical people, you have to understand that there are certain methods and ways of communicating that just do not work. I've dealt with a number of recruiters over the years, and these are some of the things that I've run across that turn me off instantly. I view these types of contacts as being worse than stamping "Idiot" on your forehead.

These people are bad about blasting crap out to people. This email came directly from them, to an address that I've pretty much abandoned. The subject is always something like "(my last name in all caps) Job Name - Keyword - Keyword - KeywordThinkEnergyGroup.com" It reads like a scam, with URGENT and APPLY BEFORE peppered around the email like so many pigeon droppings on the statue of the mayor. This is the second version of this email that was in the inbox; the previous one was identical save the date had changed by a month. I guess it's not that URGENT. Maybe if they made it more than an ADVERTISEMENT for Think Energy, they'd get replies. And, yes, I have replied to these before. I received ABSOLUTELY NOTHING back. Woohoo.

Recruiter-Rater Posting Guidelines

Here are the Recruiter-Rater posting guidelines. I have generally adhered to what I would think would be most useful, but I believe there is a more semantic web way to do things in this particular context of rating recruiters.

I am still in the Staffing profession today with a Fortune 500 Company and used to be a recruiter with them in the late 90's, and heard not much has changed since. If you have seen the movie Boiler Room, you get an idea of what the internal workings of how this cultish agency is run - hectic and poorly. The turnover rate is about 90% even amongst longtime established managers that were making well over six figures. They essentially hire relatively inexperienced and motivated individuals to be "trained" (though brainwashed would be a more accurate word)on their method of recruiting.

Spam. Some of it is nice 'n juicy, because it gives you a laugh if you read it. How many times can I refinance my home to buy patches so I can enlarge portions of my body while buying and selling penny stocks for russian women that want husbands on their webcams? This isn't that kind of spam email. It's dry and boring. It comes to your inbox wearing a CareerBuilder coat, but has nothing to do with that site. It wants your resume and contact information. It's not really a recruiter's email. I'm guessing it's a poor attempt at phishing. Wonder if they'll try and contact Ima Moron at 1 Any Street?

They pick people who have recently renewed/updated a profile on Monster.com (and others) and send out a generic spam email telling how your resume indicates you would do well with them.
how much are you spending on your recruiting business website?

Now every recruiter in America can afford a professional recruiting business website with the exact same powerful features you see on websites for BIG million-dollar companies.

It’s hard to believe, but for less than $15 you could have a full-featured recruiting business website live on the Internet by this time tomorrow! And we’re not talking about some basic one page “online brochure.” We’re talking about a real website with all the bells and whistles like a resume submit form for candidates, job apply feature for candidates, unlimited job postings, online survey, photo gallery and much more!

coastalmanagementweb.com - SCAM / SPAM

I recently found your resume online and feel you may be qualified for our Vice President of Marketing Position. We are a fast growing dynamic marketing consulting company in a multi-billion dollar industry. We are seeking a V.P. with a successful track record in management and general business.

Coastal Management is proud to assist the Entertainers Guild of America in select its Evaluation Board for the upcoming national Talent Search.

The Entertainers Guild of America (EGA) is being created by models, actors, industry professionals, writers, artists, and many others in the industry to help pave a way for newcomers. We say is being created rather than has been created because the Guild is always in development. EGA will be constantly changing and adapting as the entertainment industry changes. The one thing that stays constant is the EGA mission, which is to be a resource for newcomers as well as professionals in the industry.

The EGA provides information. Information about how to get into the industry, information about the companies in the industry, and most importantly guidance from those who have been in the industry. The EGA is also a source for advice. Newcomers can get questions answered by professionals that have ?been there and done that? if you will.

Currently EGA is developing a national search for talent (actors, models, and musicians). This project includes 12 preliminary events and a nationally televised final event. The preliminaries run from January 2005 to December 2005 with the final being held in New York in January 2006
I've gotten several email with similar text. It all sounded pretty fishy so I did some research and found that the same type letter was being used by a known scammer named Alec Defrawy.

These assclowns target resumes on Monster.com
and are pretty persistant.

check the mail header:

Return-Path:
Received: from specv (mail.hirebug.com [69.28.72.23] (may be forged))

Lots of bad stuff out there about all of the parties and domains involved, including some of the sites claiming they are a fraud.

Either way something is whacked. I'm a net admin and certainly not a candidate to be a VP of marketing.

Monster.com SPAM - Michael Whelan

Got this in my inbox. More SPAM from Monster.com.

Michael Whelan
212-990-6092
Drew,
Your resume caught my attention as I was scanning the employer section of monster.com. No doubt you will have a number of opportunities with
traditional companies.
Regardless I thought that you might be interested in talking with me. I represent a successful, fifteen-year old high technology food-science company
traded on the NASDAQ.
I have recently returned from the Philippines where I helped open the Asian market. I am excited to be back in Chicago and in the process of opening
various cities in the US. My partner and I are looking for a self-starter who has leadership ability to expand business in your area. The few key leaders in
the US will have business that will begin locally, grow throughout the country and reach internationally. Given your history of success and leadership
ability, this would certainly be an impressive financial opportunity. The compensation package allows you to go beyond traditional corporate commission
schedules and take advantage of a generous bonus program.
The company we represent has been been written up both in Success and International Business Magazine. In 1998 it was recognized as a partner in
humanitarian ventures by the foundation established by Pope John Paul II. In the 1999-2000 season their products helped the Rams win the Superbowl.
Drew, I realize this differs from your past experience. However, a number of people with similiar backgrounds have found great success. If you have an
entrepreneurial attitude, I strongly suggest giving a call. You have nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain.
Due to time constraints, please do not reply to my email. In order for us to talk in greater detail, I have set up a 20 minute recorded call @
212.990.6092. It is my hopes this will provide your due diligence as it will feature an overview of the business as well as a chance to hear from some of the
leaders you would work closely with. You can call at your convenience as it is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After the recording, leave a
message after the beep or give a call to my office @ 847.362.4083.
After listening to the recorded call, I hope to hear from you in the days ahead and my partner and I we will talk specifics with you.
All the best,
Michael Whelan 212.990.6092/ 24/7 (give yourself 20min.)
