ITS Technologies - Toledo, OHSubmitted by Gryffyx on Sun, 2006-01-22 15:23.
ITS Technologies, Inc. A bunch of guys that don't really seem to understand what the jobs they are recruiting for actually need as far as skills go. They like to tell stories to get you interested and conveniently forget to mention details, like contract length and terms. A friend of mine received a call from ITS. ITS wanted to know if they could submit a resume for a project manager position. He says yes, and is called about 3 days later. ITS says the company wants to interview him, what times are you available. He gives them a number of times, and waits. A few weeks go by, and he hears nothing. Calls only get a "We're working with them to get this set up for you, but they want to interview you." By this time, I have applied for a job directly at this company, and get an interview. ITS calls shortly after wanting to know if I'd be interested in submitting a resume for this same job. I tell them no, I'm already working with the company. This seems to make them a little upset. My friend has heard nothing, and is now being ignored. No replies to calls or emails. I get to the job site and start my interview in the HR office. On top of the desk is my friend's resume with the ITS logo on it. I ignore it, until the HR person asks me "Do you think anyone else at your company is looking? How do you know this?" I point out my friend's resume. The HR rep proceeds to tell me that "We get a lot of contractor submissions. I'm not taking any contractors for positions right now." His tone indicated that he was just stacking them in a pile, with no consideration for the content. This was after ITS told my friend that he most certainly had an interview with this company! ITS, of course, is silent. I was offered a position once through them. They forgot to tell me it was not a contract to hire, but a contract to whenever position. I turned it down, which made them madder than a contractor with a crap job and no takers. I thought I made it clear in my online profiles that I wasn't interested in contract-only jobs. Guess not. As far as I know (from friends who work at this place,) the company with the vacancy hasn't hired anyone yet, and it's a year later. I find out ITS hates me now. But they keep calling me, wanting to know if I can help them place people. Shortly after the not-a-real-hire-job job, they call again about a job at the "You have an interview" place. It's a mechanical/statistical position, which I know nothing about. They are hot and heavy on me applying for this position. When I point out that I know nothing about the skills, ITS tells me that "The company understands that you may not have all the skills they want." If by "not all," you mean "none," then that's ok. I take the phone interview mostly just to get a contact at the company. It's pretty obvious about 2 minutes into the conversation that the hiring manager has no interest in me, and has probably had a number of submissions just like mine. We conclude our conversation. A week or so goes by, and I never hear from ITS. A call to them isn't returned. Later, they call me about another position at the "You have an interview" place. (Some background: this employer recently outsourced all of it's manufacturing, leaving a small group of technical people (About 200) in the old building. People are leaving as quickly as they can, now.) This particular position is what I'm looking for, but since I already interviewed for a similar position a year ago, I know that the pay doesn't justify a 35 mile drive. I decline, with the note of the low pay. ITS tells me that "I realize the pay is low, but with the overtime that's available, you could make a lot more." Ok. Sure. One of the things that was drilled into my head when I was out there interviewing was that they *DO NOT* work overtime. They were very proud of the fact that it was a 9-5 operation only. No overtime. This was confirmed by people that worked there, and friends that had worked there in the past. So, an outright lie. I was amazed. I hung up. I found out that I "Burnt my bridges" with ITS. Why are they rebuilding them for me? I'm sure they'll be calling soon with more jobs that I know nothing about. Lucky me. ( categories: Recruiting Agency )
I found out later that the "you have an interview" place's president went around the HR office and hired a contracted via ITS greenhorn for the position I interviewed for, mostly because he was willing to work for $15k below market rate. Contacts told me he lasted less than a year. When I told ITS that the jobs out there just don't pay enough for the drive, I mentioned that I had interviewed for position (x) and I had found out they decided to go around local policies and hire contract instead, and he didn't last long. The ITS guy muttered something about "yeah, I placed him..." But, I still get emails and calls from them, despite my best efforts to avoid the place. Bridge not burned... |

Just had another contact with these people - looks like there is a different crew doing the gruntwork now. Same deal - another position that I am only marginally qualified for, with a "You're the perfect match!" Try to set up a time to speak directly, and everyone gets mum. Oh well, only a few minutes of email wasted this time.
Wow. How do places like this stay in business? I guess they have a good track record of putting butts in seats, because a lot of local places use them.
I still have to wonder about this place. After the contract-to-whenever debacle, they basically told me to f-off, in a business-like manner. But I still get emails from them about jobs, and things where they want me to help them locate people. Sure guys...
