Cornerstone America: Job Board SpamSubmitted by Gryffyx on Sun, 2006-01-22 17:09.
Cornerstone America Not really a recruiter, but a work-at-home scheme selling health insurance. They pick people who have recently renewed/updated a profile on Monster.com (and others) and send out a generic spam email telling how your resume indicates you would do well with them. They don't really tell you that you need to pay them to work for them. At least, not right away. I receive anywhere from 3-5 emails a week from them when they are going through a recruiting phase, which usually lasts 3-4 weeks. As soon as I get another mail from them, I'll post it. Seeing as how I have no background in sales, I have to wonder what qualifies me for a sales job with Cornerstone. I guess because I'm breathing. ( categories: SPAM / SCAM )
I just attended an interview with Cornerstone and was impressed by the closness and professionalism of the people at the company. As someone else previously stated, the fees are not charged by Cornerstone, they are school and licensing fees for the most part. Checks are made payable directly to the school you enroll in and to the state for your license. The people that have nothing good to say about the company don't understand the opportunity they are being presented with. Some careers do require furthering your education. And, again to the complainers, if you don't want responses to your resumes, don't post them on Monster. If you truly want a job, you will appreciate a response on Sunday or any other day! Keep ignoring their e-mails, more money for the rest of us!!! It's not really what the company does that is the problem. It's the agressive spam, you've (maybe) just won a million dollars type marketing they do on the job boards. It's interesting the first time, but not the 500th time. Well, I just got an email from cornerstone saying I had what they were looking for. I have a pretty strong sales background and have sold insurance in the past, so when I got the email, I can't say it stood out as anything unusual. However, what I did find unusual was that when I tried to Google the company to retrieve their website, Google'd provided a link for cornerstoneamerica.net which isn't even working right now. With that being a huge red flag in my book, I continued to Google more to see what else I could find and ended up stumbling upon this website. Lucky me. I don't doubt that it could be a lucrative career option for some people out there, however with the limited information I was able to find about the company (what with their website down and all) I don't believe I will be calling for an interview. And Gryffyx, thanks for keeping the board informed these past few months. Well, I just got an email from cornerstone saying I had what they were looking for. And Gryffyx, thanks for keeping the board informed these past few months. I currently work for Cornerstone and I am looking for employment elsewhere. I am glad that someone gets a $1,500 per week paycheck, because the average paycheck in my office is about $250 per week. You can't make a living in this "opportunity" unless you're dishonest or a workaholic. I do have a good work ethic, but my 40-50 hours per week hasn't paid off yet - and I've been at it for almost two years. I have an interview coming up. I have spoke with the person who is doing the interview on the phone already and the conversation went well as far as I was concerned. I do not have much of a sales background, although I can be very ambitious given certain conditions. I am thinking about switching careers from teaching to something else but at the same time I need to know if the job will provide me with a quality way of life. What does the job entail, other than selling insurance? What is it like, and how do you get paid? I am in the crossroad right now where I may go back to teaching our youth or providing for our elderly? Is it going to be worth my time? I have been up and down and all around trying to find something that pays well enough to support myself and provide some job satisfaction. Thank you to the posters of this site for saving me one half tank of gas and a load of baloney. God Bless and good luck to everyone else out there searching for a decent income. As for me I won't be interviewing with Cornerstone. report them (850)413-3100 lets get em shut dowm Cornerstone America is expanding our Florida Markets in your area. Sales have grown to more than $400 million annually and continue to rise at a rapid pace. Just to inform everybody on this forum that I received this Cornerstone of America thing from Careerbuilders.com. I have also recieved alot of spam hiring info; however, i have been contacted by a very professional recruiter and have an interview planned for next week. I will come back on the site to let you know what i think. After speaking with them, i was very enthusiastic about how they described the career but looking on this site i have become very cautious. I'm a professional consultant and entrepeneur. The last thing i am going to do is pay for classes to work for them. I work for a large company now and have no need to change unless it is a better opportunity with better income. I can approach best from my position and can judge it based on its true potential not a contrived one to catch those with big dreams and small realities. - the New Port Richey Professional Hey guys, I really hardly ever post anything on the internet, but I just had to this time. Yesterday I went to one of UGA's group interviews. UGA is another subsidiary of blackstone and HealthMarkets and basically does what cornerstone and mega life do. At the interview they basically try to sell the company for an hour and a half. Afterwards, another interviewee and I were talking it over and we couldn't understand why they were trying to sell the job so aggressively. After all, we were all looking for employment. I'm thinking extremely high turnover. The two of us were both MBAs and fairly intelligent, so we were pretty skeptical and wanted more info, especially when the lead manager mentioned that the $250 application fee (in cash or money order) was reduced to $50 for one more day only. So today I and my $50 were supposed to meet with him for a second and final interview and the first that was actually face-to-face. I tried to research everything I could about UGA, Cornerstone, HealthMarkets, and Mega Life and came accross some pretty interesting accounts over at ripoffreport.com. I suggest you check out some of the horror stories from former employees as well as clients who were taken. Hope this helps. Needless to say, I will not be going to the interview. --D I Just post my resume and I received the E-mail from Wayne Sanbach and Barry Jacoby with the same pitch, and I totally agree with all this pepple complaining. Because it happened to me Just received from CareerBuilder a similarly worded and formated email from AFS (www.afsamerica.net) who I first thought was in the services industry - building & grounds maintenance - but after very little digging realized its's the Cornerstone model and they'r eaffiliated with UGA. Lots of hype, not telling you "what" they sell, and vague promises of fortune. Certainly doesn't help the reputation of insurance sales. Cheers, Again, you missed the part where posting on Monster, with a technical background, attracts people hiring for insurance sales, modeling careers, and work-at-home jobs. I do not post on Monster to be bombarded with unrelated job postings, I post on Monster to get a job in my field. Cornerstone does not seem to actually read or respond to resumes, but uses only the email address to solicit their scam. Totally not interested in selling insurance. Also, having to pay money to get a job selling insurance is a sure scam. I am glad that someone from Cornerstone came by to post! My question to you is, why do you send out so much spam? Why are you bombarding non salespeople with insurance sales jobs? What makes you think that this is an acceptable practice? Wheew, I feel better after replying. HI. Nice to meet u. Thanks Thanks for posting, Gryffyx! There are lots of those job-board-scams, and they should be labeled as such. Perhaps we can start deep-linking into the job boards to point out the bogus posts? I haven't tried this yet. Rock-on. A seperate flag or section for scams would be a great idea. Cornerstone is more of an annoyance than anything else. A real company that isn't worth the time unless you're already in sales and like it. I just hate opening my job email and finding a half-dozen droppings from them. I will see what I can do about a SPAM or SCAM category. You'll notice that I flag and post the messages that are classified this way. I guess that would definately make it more clear! Anyway, thanks for posting, let us know if you have any other recruiters to post. From Letter Sun Jan 22 12:19:06 2006 Cornerstone America wants individuals with an Entrepreneurial Spirit We are expanding in Central/Columbus & Cincinnati-Dayton Ohio. It's to the point where I had to complain to the job boards. It won't do any good, of course. It's just annoying. I complained to Monster about Cornerstone America and the like. The answer that they sent is confusing at best. Cornerstone isn't a money laundering scam, the emails are coming via the Monster system, and who is Maya? Hello XXX, Thank you for writing to Monster Customer Central. I also thank you XXX for bringing this to our notice. I have forwarded this mail to our siteabuse team to look into this matter and inform you about the same. I would also like to tell you Maya that the email you are inquiring about is an email spoof that is using Monster domain information. Please be aware that this is NOT a Monster authorized email. It was NOT sent by or through Monster. This email is attempting to engage unsuspecting individuals in a money laundering scam. The email is the result of a general spam distribution, meaning the email addresses of the recipients were not obtained from a Monster database. It is in your best interest to disregard the email. Do not engage with the entities. If you did begin correspondence and have started the required financial transactions, it is recommended that you contact local law enforcement immediately to request the appropriate steps to absolve yourself from any wrong doing. Do reply to this mail for any feedback if you would like to tell or if you would like to know anything about your account, I would be glad to answer all your queries. For any further queries, please feel free to reply or contact us at 1-800-6667837. You can also upgrade your existing account to Monster Premium Services and find the Frequently Asked Questions at http://my.monster.com/help/faq.aspx Thank you for using Monster. I HAD quote "HAD" an interview this Tuesday, but i questioned why my resume qualified. So i googled the company and found your guys's spam board so thank you! Sincerely the person saving gas! I received one today and it seems the last replies were in january so they are at it again. They are still at it. The rate has been cut down to one or two a week (Sunday and/or Tuesday,) but it's going on longer than before. Maybe people are getting wise to them? My resume was received by the so called company, I too received the email stating I possessed the qualifications for the position. I actually scheduled an interview for next week. Sounds as if I should cancel, or out of curiosity follow through with it knowing I WIIL NOT submit any money towards a career. Thanks goodness I was checking the company out prior to my 130 mile round trip. Thanks for listening. Did you go to the interview? Just curious. I've heard that the "interviews" are more like time-share sales with a "free" vacation. Apparently, Monster.com has a feature where you can block certain companies, which is hidden under layers of crap. Since Cornerstone was *still* sending out emails as of a few weeks ago, I decided to block them after advice from one of Monster's support techs. Is there anyone out there that has used Monster's system to find employees? I'm assuming it costs to retrieve resumes and send things out. Just wondering how they can afford to continually send out email. i would just like to say that i am currtently employed by cornerstone america and have no problems with the company. the fees that these ignorant people are discussing are 80% state licensing and school fees. there is no ripoff. i don't have any sales experience whatsoever, but i do very well. its a little thing called personality. cornerstone is a great opportunity not a scam. The main problem with Cornerstone is that they spam the crap out of job boards. Not the best way to catch the people using the job boards. I received an email 'job offer' and have no experience in sales nor am I looking for this type of opportunity. Do I have personality, yes and am I an effective communicator, yes. I don't appreciate these type of 'job offers' and consider these a waste of my time and theirs. I recieved an email yesterday from them and I was interested in the email until I went to there lame website. The crappy website forced me to google them and find out what they really do, well now I know. And yes I did post my resume on monster.com Thanks people! Oh, and now the average salary is 60,000 to 100,000 a year if you have that "Entrepreneurial Spirit". I just received an email today from this so called "Cornerstone American". Like many 9of you, I was interested in the email but at the same time chocked by what they are saying about my resume and why they should upfront schedule interviews this coming week. Also, something to watch out is the day you receive feedback from jobs you applied. Please, let's be honest though some people work better on week-end, Sunday is in general not a working day and most of all not a day to schedule an interview. What does Monster has to say about this????? Until then, folks let's be cautious with Sunday’s job related mails. Most of them are just SCAM like the one you received from these guys. I emailed Monster.com several times about Cornerstone. The first response I received is posted above and is basically some keyboard jockey sending out whatever he/she felt like. It didn't answer the question and didn't make any sense. The second time, I received an email that stated that Cornerstone was a real company and does offer real positions. If you don't like getting the emails, block them. So I did. Monster is going to do nothing, because Cornerstone is providing them with revenue. To the person that works for them: I have no doubt that some people can be very sucessful with this company. However, their marketing is spam, and is very annoying when it clogs up your inbox all the time. Please pass this along to your superiors. I just recieved an invitation to a interview from Cornerstone America. I appreciate the warnings of a scam but im going to the interview to judge them for myself. wish me luck!!! Seriously -- good luck! I know first-hand how difficult it can be to land a job, through a recruiter or not. I invite you to discuss your experiences with this or any other company. Let's hope you have a good experience, and start your contract or position soon! I HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM CORNERSTONE, THE OFFICE BASED IN GULFBREEZE FLORIDA. hOWEVER, MY EMAIL WAS NOT SO IMPERSONAL. I WAS ACTUALLY SOMEWHAT INTERESTED IN THIS COMPANY, THEN I READ ALL OF YOUR EMAILS. I AM STILL NOT QUITE SURE AS WHAT TO THINK, BUT THERE MUST BE SOME TYPE OF PROBLEM HERE IF SO MANY PEOPLE THINK THERE IS A SCAM INVOLVED. ALSO, REMEMBER THAT IN THIS WORLD, THE YEAR 2006, YOU REALLY DO "GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR". nOTHING COMES FOR FREE, EVERYTHING HAS ITS PRICE. NOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE WILLING OR ABLE TO BITE THE BULLET AND TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY IS ANOTHER THING. SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT IN THE FINANCIAL POSITION TO SPEND MONEY IN ORDER TO MAKE MONEY. I DO BELIEVE THERE IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY HERRE WITH CORNERSTONE, HOWEVER IF IT IS IMMEDIATE CASH, WORKING YOUR FINGERS TO THE BONE, THEN I AM SURE YOUR LOCAL MCDONALDS OR WAL MART IS HIRING. I WILL POST ANOTHER COMMENT AFTER MYINTERVIEW, WHO KNOWS I MAY BE SINGING A VERY DIFFERENT TUNE BY THAT TIME!!! Had the informational interview today in Radnor, PA.. Then they call you back for the one on one interview. The first question they ask is why should I hire you.. Then they pretend to look over your resume for a minute.. They did not look at my resume before I came in for the interview.. He seriously only looked at it for that 1 minute I brought my resume to him for the one on one interview. Why I spend a gas tank to go to these interviews like Ameriprise Financial and Cornerstone, I dont know.. What I do like about the job is that you control your schedule, however you come in on monday to schedule your appointments which are only from reprint leads.. I asked what the average new employee will get for appointments a week.. And he said "well one particular girl just got 8." I then asked well what is the success rate for the average employee here at this company, he said "well this one particular girl is doing really well and just made this much money." Well sorry buddy.. you didnt answer two of my questions. Whatever happened to being honest.. I left the interview with lying back to him and saying im very interested in the job, but said I have to always sleep on it and talk to my parents. He said that I should call him tomorrow if im interested.. Well thats not enough time for me to make a decision. Cornerstone your just like every other fuckin scam job. I just want to warn people out there, like me, who are trying to get a job working for themselves and making a decent wage. Cornerstone is a scam! If a company asks YOU to pay THEM for training, licenses, etc. they are not legitimate. To give a comparison: my roommate works for American Fidelity Assurance Company. They also sell insurance. When she was hired, all of her training was paid for, all of her licensing was paid for, all of her materials were paid for, and she was given one on one training in the field. Once she was hired, she got a laptop, a company car, and an expense account. There are companies out there who really care about their employee's well being and success. Cornerstone is not one of them. I received an email from cornerstone america a few days ago. i had never heard of the company before, but they said that i had the "necessary qualifications to be a candidate for a position". i do have a background in sales and a bachelor's degree so i thought it seemed legit. i decided to set up an appointment to see what it was all about. when i first walked in, i was greeted by a very enthusiastic man who handed me a contact/information sheet to fill out before he started a power point presentation on the company. he talked for maybe 15-20 minutes and then asked if any of us were interested and wanted to stay for a one-on-one interview. With all of the perks he had mentioned in the presentation ( 75K-100K in the first year, weekly bonuses, 10-year retirement, just to name a few things), I couldn't resist wanting to learn more about it. My interview lasted for maybe another 15-20 minutes. I was asked how I would be described by former supervisors, how much i was interested in the company on a scale of 1-10, why i should be hired, what appeals most to me about the company, etc. My interviewer very briefly asked me about my last employer and actually only asked how long i worked there and not about what i did. something that i thought was wierd was that she didn't ask me for my resume at the beginning of the interview. in fact, when the interview was over i asked her if she wanted a copy. also, she said that i could call the office back at 4pm which was about an hour from the time that my interview ended to let them know of my wishes. before i left, i let her know i was speaking to other companies and that i would need more time to think about their offer. she then gave me until friday (10/13) to call back. as i walked out of the office, everything seemed normal, there were people in the office socializing and working like any other office job. when i walked back to my car i was excited but the more i thought about it, i started to worry that it could be a scam. it seemed like such a quick process... most of the other companies i have been talking with have had multiple interviews before hiring or atleast haven't made offers so soon. it just seemed too good to be true. and you know what they say... if it sounds too good to be true, it's probably not. the thing is, i have interviewed with another insurance company, AFLAC, and they had the same pitch as far as the pay being on a commission basis and having to pay for classes and the test upfront and being compensated later. however, i believe that AFLAC is legit because i read that it was one of the top 100 best companies to work for, according to forbes magazine. anyway, my point is i think cornerstone america could be a scam but honestly i really don't know for sure. it sounds like a great opportunity and i don't wanna pass it up, but i also don't wanna play the fool. i'm thinking of turning it down and pursuing other career opportunities. i hope i'm making the right decision. i just wish i could know for sure. Last night we receieved a call at about 7:45. My girlfriend came and got me from another room to tell me that someone was calling me "about a job." Sketchy Company Give-Away #1-Who calls about a job at 7:45? I asked myself that same question, but I answered the phone anyway. The woman, who did not introduce herself by name (Sketchy Company Give-Away #2), told me that she had "received" my resume, they are actively searching for people in my town and believed I would be a good fit for Cornerstone and asked if I would be interested. Sketchy Company Give-Away #3- I live in a town of less than 1000 people with only a couple of pizza places and a gas station. I said "possibly" and asked her what Cornerstone does. She gave me a stilted response about business portfolio products for small businesses and that I would be a sales rep. She then asked me if I would be interested in setting up an interview. I replied with, "No thank you, I'm not really interested in Sales." I'm guessing that you did not receive a reply to your mail. |

Hi,
I work for Cornerstone and I do the recruiting. Sometimes I really hate it. So much of the time we are bombarded with people who do not really want to work. They just want to sit around and collect a paycheck. They want to be pointed to a desk and a computer and zone out on the internet all week. They have no initiative, no sense of purpose. They are just drifting through life. Looking for a handout. Looking for someone to take care of them.
I have worked for this company for four years and I've seen good and bad things, as is the case with any company. This is truly an incredible opportunity for the right person. It is not for everyone. You have to be motivated and disciplined. You have to have a lot of confidence in yourself and you have to know how to communicate with people. And you have to care about people. It's not just about spewing out little blogs on the internet to make yourself feel good. I have seen some very caring people do wonderful things for others and I have seen some very selfish people use this opportunity to take advantage of others, We have a young man who started with us at the turn of the year. He had joined the Marines right out of high school and then he earned a scholarship to a Massachusetts business school. He was anxious to build a career for himself. His average paycheck is $1500. per week and he has only just begun. This job is not for people who do not have the capacity to put others before themselves. That really is the only path to success. Good Luck.
