Algomod Technologies Corporation is a JOKE!

Submitted by Carrie on Tue, 2008-05-06 16:27.

I receive emails from this recruiter several times a month, actually received one today. The job of course sounds to good to be true. As the saying goes if it does then it usually is.
On one ocassion I replied to one which was a contracting position with AT&T. The recruiter replied asking me for my SS#. In turn I asked her why she needed it, and needless to say I never heard another word from her.

Just another scam

Submitted by Gryffyx on Mon, 2008-04-28 16:27.

Just another money laundering scam. The company itself looks real, but the job offer probably is not. Bad grammar aside, this type of deal is almost always fraudulent.

I am unable to download your resume from monster...

Submitted by Gryffyx on Sun, 2008-04-27 21:03.

I'm sorry. This is just bad. It's clearly a blast-to-everyone email. This company may be 100% on the level, but it doesn't look like it from the unprofessional way things are written. Please, please, PLEASE!!! Don't run your business from a roadrunner email account. Or AOL for that matter.

Excellent Job Offer

Submitted by Gryffyx on Sun, 2008-04-27 20:58.

Adea Solutions, Inc
7701 Las Colinas Ridge/3rd Floor
Irving , Texas 75063

Another "Just as received" for the Ohio position, you'll notice the text is identical to the Hello Good Day posting. Internet job portal? Wow... This one is only 7 months instead of 8 months, even though it was received the same day as the Hello Good Day posting. I'm still not interested in short-term contract only positions. How many times do I need to say that?

Just as I received it. I'm not qualified for this position, and I clearly state that I'm not interested in short-term contract only positions. Another case of blast-it-out email tactics.

Automation Career Consultants - the Kirkwoods

Submitted by sweng on Sat, 2008-04-19 12:55.

This isn't the worst that has happened to anyone when it comes to recruitment, but hopefully some lessons will be learned here.

Ken Kirkwood of Automation Career Consultants is a technical recruiter in the Maryland area. He claims he is an 'ethical' recruiter. He is no different from the rest of them. I had several interviews, and most of the interviews had nothing to do with the type of work I told him I wanted to do. Let's just say I ended up with a job that I didn't like, I didn't do the kind of work that I wanted, and I didn't like the company at all.

Jewell & Co.

Submitted by Gryffyx on Sat, 2008-03-08 01:41.

The website for this company is a really slick looking legal services company, that doesn't sem to list any real or head office. The broken English seems to say something else is going on. Either way, I'm not planning on replying. This email came directly from the monster.com internal email system.

UGA insurance

Submitted by Lydia on Fri, 2008-02-22 17:58.

Just another word about UGA in case anyone is curious:

I accepted an interview with them. I have no interest or experience with insurance, and I do not have experience in sales.

The interview was an informative session, explaining why they are able to both provide optimum coverage for customers and also provide such lucrative compensation for agents.

"Real" spam emails and how to deal with them?

Submitted by Gryffyx on Fri, 2007-12-07 22:57.

Recently, I have started to receive a lot of emails that start out with something like "This may be a shot in the dark, but I'm hoping you may be interested in or know someone that is interested in this position..."

What to do in such a situation

Submitted by danoomistmatiste on Thu, 2007-11-08 03:14.

Don't know if people have been in such a situation. This recruiting agency arranged for an interview with company A which I attended and shortly after (next day) was informed that they were interested in hiring me for a 3 month contract to hire position. The rates were discussed and I also signed the paperwork. Later this recruiting agency informs me that they were not sure of the start date due to some internal organizational changes in the HR dept of Company A (which had been bought over by Company B a few months earlier).

Remington International - Unethical Behavior

Submitted by Recruiters to AVOID on Sat, 2007-10-27 21:33.

This is my alleged experience with Remington International in the Los Angeles area:

Remington International took my resume from DICE.com and called me. I went in for a personal interview and met with several of their "children" recruiters. They operate like a paper mill, syphoning contact information from their "candidates" in order to make new contacts at other companies for the purpose of making money off other agencies hard-earned clients. Beware of this practice. It is highly unethical and not whatsoever standard practice by reputable recruiting agencies. Do NOT give out this information to these people.

I really wasn't sure that this was even real. It's not well worded, has a generic link to a social website, has an AOL address for the reply-to, and really just looks, well, phony. It does appear to be a real company, but I really don't feel like taking that risk. Except for the location, this is exactly how it came to me, stray colon and all.

Contractors I have Known (and blocked)

Submitted by Gryffyx on Tue, 2007-10-16 22:26.

Most of the job boards allow you to block certain employers from finding your resume. The reasons vary a lot, from you don't want your current employer finding out that you're looking for a new job, to the fact that some of the users of job boards are useless and generally make themselves annoying.

This is a good example of poor communication. I'm guessing this recruiter triggered on the word "embedded." I did use that word in the profile this listing came from, but in a completely different way. I have no experience with any of the items listed.

Submitted by Regretful Recruiter on Fri, 2007-08-31 02:06.

I work for General Employment and I want to worn the world please don't join them. The manager I work for is such a mean and uprofessional individual....The company will lie just to get $$$$$ they pay $300.00 a week as a draw against commission but guess what? You won't see a commission you end up owing the company several thousands of dollars. The placements are so far away you will never get ahead to see $3,000 commissions.

Mutual of Omaha: How the mighty have fallen.

Submitted by Gryffyx on Sun, 2007-08-19 23:37.

Mutual of Omaha
John.Mazzini@mutualofomaha.com
Omaha, Nebraska (of course!)

Mutual of Omaha used to be a fairly well respected company. If you're over 30, you probably remember spending Sunday afternoons watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Always a treat, since the rest of the programming schedule consisted of Bowling, Golf, and The Wide World of Sports (Oh, Mr. Agony of Defeat. How many times must you tumble off that slope?)

The worst bang for your buck!

Submitted by Gryffyx on Mon, 2007-06-25 16:59.

I received this in my email a while back:

please contact me for possible interview / opportunity...

That's it. Nothing else.

Does this person believe that he/she is going to get a lot of responses? The company appears to be real, but this looks too much like spam. It was rescued from my bulk folder for that reason.

This company gave me the appearance of guys doing nothing but wanting to make a quick buck on your back. They lie to get you interested, and then play dumb and get mad when you call them on their lies. Probably the worst experience I've ever had with a recruiting firm. Don't bother going to the website, it's been under construction for years and has no actual jobs posted.

Indian Recruiting Scam?

Submitted by Flecknoe on Fri, 2007-05-25 22:51.

Myself, in Pittsburgh, and a friend, in Houston, have been receiving an increasing number of inquiries about contract/contract-to-hire/permanent jobs in the Technical Writing field lately from recruiters around the country that seem to be ACTUALLY based in India.

Gotta love Linda and her crew. I've called once or twice. They won't tell you about any openings they have. You *HAVE* to come in person for a prescreen meeting. Can't do it over the phone or email. Too bad the hours are better than banker's hours. I never found it worth the time to drive 20+ miles into downtown to see them. Did I mention I'd have to pay to park?
